How to Score Baseball Advanced Edition

My name is Robert Bulka. I have been a baseball fan all my life. When I was a little kid, It was a ritual for Dad and I to catch every Yankees game we could. Money was tight, so trips to the Bronx were rare. We had to be content to sit at home and watch the games on TV. That was, of course, provided that Mom didn’t have other plans for the TV at game time. In those cases, we were relegated to the kitchen to listen to the Bill White call the game on the radio. But whether we were at the Stadium, in front of the TV, or sitting around the radio, we’d always score the game, taking turns every inning.

Dad taught me the basics of scoring just about the time I started going to school, and by the time I started Little League, I was almost an expert. Dad was always there to help me when I encountered a play I didn’t know how to score. I still have some of those scorecards from a few memorable games, with Dad’s crisp lines and careful notations, and my barely legible chicken-scratch.

As I grew older, I realized just how much scorekeeping with Dad taught me about the game of baseball. I had developed a pretty complete knowledge of the rules, a good understanding of the strategies employed by managers, and most importantly, a genuine love for the game.

The memories of the time Dad and I spent scoring those baseball games are priceless, and the bond that we developed as a result of our baseball sessions is strong to this day. Now, I’m sharing the same ritual with my son, Bobby. That father-son bond is impossible to describe.

Those experiences prompted me to write this ebook. My Dad is a student of the game, so his knowledge was extensive, even back then. But not every baseball fan understands the game at that level. For those people, this book is written for you.
